KU license plate ready to roll in Oklahoma

Alumni and supporters rally to make Jayhawk tags available in Sooner State.

by Kansas Alumni staff
Geoff Legler spearheaded the drive to make Oklahoma the third state outside of Kansas to offer KU plates.

Alumni and KU fans in the Sooner State will be able to drive their pride by sporting KU license plates, thanks to the faithful who stepped up to meet Oklahoma’s requirement that 100 orders be placed by May 1.

Special gratitude goes to Geoff Legler, whose valiant crusade for KU plates led to the Oklahoma Legislature’s approval (OK to proceed: Bringing a Jayhawk license plate to Oklahoma, issue No. 1, 2024). Legler reported in early April that the state had received 138 orders, so production of the plates has begun, though the process is expected to take six to eight months. For details on ordering, visit the Alumni Association’s Jayhawk license plate page. Oklahoma joins Texas and Maryland as the only states outside Kansas where KU license plates are available.

Procedures for approving and creating specialty plates vary from state to state. If you would like to see Jayhawk license plates in your state, please contact your state legislator or the appropriate agency to learn more about the requirements.
